Sξξ-IT™MATH

 

I have a son with special needs. He is Autistic, highly-functioning, severe communication and seizure disorder. He is currently enrolled in the third grade where his is mainstreamed approximately 60% of the time.

When the multiplication tables were introduced to the class, Elijah could not grasp the concept. I had been wondering for a period of time how I could explain multiplication to him. Elijah is very VISUAL.  I needed something that he could hold in his hands, see and feel the beads, and connect the senses with the concept. He then understood what "two groups of three" symbolized.

        When I showed my son, Elijah’s-Spider, he was able to count the legs, count all of the beads, and then arrived to a conclusion by looking at the math sentences. He was able to do a page of math without any help and that was a BIG first step.

           I took Elijah’s-Spider to his regular classroom, and it helped the other students  understand multiplication better.
