SEE-IT™ MATH is based on using our senses to SEE the math concepts and hopefully make the connection.
Our motto is …
…see the CONNECTION – understanding the CONCEPT.
INTRODUCTION TO SEE-IT™ MATH
– DIVISION/FACTORING SECTION
…see the CONNECTION --- understand the CONCEPT!
This method of division is a way that anyone can do
DIVISION even if they DO NOT know how to MULTIPLY !
Showing the concept of division has been
A very challenging ADVENTURE,
but I am hopeful that this will help a lot of students,
[especially when it is first introduced to them].
This method will also construct a bridge into higher math.
I am confident that it will open up many doors in your student’s mind,
helping them on all levels.
It will also help with
Fractions, Algebra, and other Upper Levels of Math
[and even some sciences].
Even if your student does not know his/her multiplication tables, they
will be able to perform DIVISION and MULTIPLICATION
[With this principal, they will be able to do any number
without a calculator.
I have chosen, for now, only going up to 144.
One reason is, once they can get the DIVIDEND
within this range, they are almost finished finding the
QUOTIENTof the original math problem.
This also can be done for numbers with remainders.
[Please wait to introduce this part until the student feel good about themselves with ones with no remainders.]
DICTIONARY.com states: Arithmetic. The operation inverse to multiplication; the finding of a quantity, the quotient, that when multiplied by a given quantity, the divisor, gives another given quantity, the dividend; the process of ascertaining how many times one number or quantity is contained in another.
YEA, RIGHT! Clear as mud.
Some times if we APPROACH a situation from a different direction,
it may open up some door in our minds.
Example:
If we put these MATH SENTENCES into ENGLISH SENTENCES,
it might help to make the connection.
A whole number --> broken into TWO parts
(THE APOIDEA) WHOLE (FAMILY) (DIVIDEND) (SUBJECT)
(THE WORKER-BEE) PORTION A (DIVISOR) (ACTION VERB)
(THE QUEEN-BEE) PORTION B (QUOTIENT) (DIRECT OBJECT)
[Subject] [Action verb] [Direct Object]
2. DIVIDEND (whole) = QUOTIENT(portion B)
DIVISOR (portion A)
3. QUOTIENT (portion B)
DIVISOR (portion A) │ DIVIDEND (whole)
SUBJECT ÷ VERB = DIRECT OBJECT
DIVIDEND ÷ DIVISOR = QUOTIENT
WHOLE ÷ PORTION A = PORTION B
